Chiza, our lovely dermal clinician, shares her top treatment recommendations for the cooler months ahead.
"The best treatments at this time of year are those that require a little more downtime, that also increase hydration and support the skin’s barrier function. As the temperature drops outside and heating is cranked up inside, this often leads to the skin drying out and barrier function disruption.
Common skin concerns that can be effectively treated include: dehydration, sensitivity, sun damage, age spots, broken capillaries, surface lines and wrinkles, rough texture, rosacea, acne, scarring and hyperpigmentation. Whilst they can be treated all year round, the cooler months mean that treatments can be performed at a greater intensity where appropriate, typically requiring more downtime.
Great treatment options at this time of year include: light based therapies such as Broad Band Light (BBL) and Intense Pulse Light (IPL); fractional laser such as Fraxel and Clear and Brilliant; fully ablative CO2 resurfacing laser treatments; and chemical peels that can be layered or used in conjunction with other modalities, or added on to medi-facials.
Medi-facials are treatments in their own right, which can be booked in between courses of more invasive treatments or simply when the skin needs a little more hydration and nourishment. They are tailored specifically for the skin concerns at hand, and are what we recommend instead of more invasive treatments for compromised, sensitised skin, in order to repair the skin’s barrier."
